Dear Journal,
School is officially back in session! Can you believe it? The summer went by so very fast. I am just glad that I really enjoyed my time off because now I have to hit the books hard. That’s alright though, I am sure that this will be a great year!
This weekend my second year class held a picnic to welcome the new first years to the University of Rochester. Being at the picnic was surreal because it felt like only yesterday that I was being introduced to my new medical school community. It felt good to be on the other side as a second year.  I enjoyed giving the first years some tips that I have found to be very beneficial in medical school. I told them to really enjoy orientation and the first few weeks of school because the bomb of medical school will soon hit and their lives will completely change… in a good way, of course. I let them know that by the end of their first year they will be transformed into new people who will better understand various areas of basic science. Not only will they master many subjects, but will also recognize how strong, resilient and passionate they are as individuals. I am very excited about the Class of 2015’s journey in medical school! Good luck and enjoy the ride!
Well, this was my first day of class. For second years, it is only fitting that we get an orientation and a warm welcome back. Yes, our orientation was a grand total of 45 minutes and our warm welcome was our first pharmacology lecture afterward. Yes, ladies and gentleman, this was surely a reality check. My classmates and I all have to dust our brains off from the summer and get to work. After all, we have two weeks until our one, and only, pharmacology exam.
As you can see, medical school doesn’t get any easier. The great thing is that once in second year, you have already built up the confidence that you can, and will, succeed. This is the mindset that’s keeping me grounded right now. I am learning that growing will never be comfortable. I am looking forward to seeing how much I grow as a second year at the University of Rochester! Let’s get it!
