Dear Journal,
Have you ever had a case of cold feet? Yes, I mean literally cold feet, but not in response to getting married. In this case, I mean cold feet to learning the practice of medicine.
This week I must admit that I experienced it. On Tuesday, my school had an Ob-Gyn mixer where students got the chance to mingle with Ob-Gyn’s in different areas of specialty. The event was great! The people were fun and there were even some residents who were able to attend, which was a pleasant surprise.
So you may be asking, “where do the cold feet come in?” I know it may be strange, but for some reason being in the midst of so many Ob-Gyn’s made me feel a weird type of excitement. Even with the excitement, I felt some sort of fear knowing that in a few years I will probably be in a residency program in this area of medicine. The fact that my dream is about to become a reality somewhat freaked me out. The thought of “what comes next?” started to cross my mind. I am almost to my lifetime goal. I began to realize that being a physician is and will be my career. I will have to dream further than just becoming a physician now. It can be exciting and scary.
Oh my goodness, this is so crazy! I’m so happy to be given the opportunity to live my dream!
Reality Check! I still have three years of medical school to tackle, and that includes my parasitology and virology test tomorrow. I have to get back to the grind.
